Temples

In times past and in some places today, structures are erected to provide a visible image and location to remind themselves and others of the concept people considered their greater, guiding, driving force: these were temples of an idol. Idolatry is essentially considering someone or something greater than ones self and becoming servants of that concept. Not all temples are visible structures for idols. "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple." - 1 Cor. 3:16-17 (ESV). The one greater thing for people should be only Jehovah God! Scripture is clear that God directed the Holy Spirit to live within Christians. Since that is the case, shouldn't we avoid anything that is counter to His efforts to produce a holy human temple? This will make the Spirit's task of sanctification more straightforward. If this is a formidable effort on our part, He will help overcome these challenges if we ask Him. "Put to death (become separated from), therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry." Col. 3:5 (NIV)
