Godly Decisions

Sometimes, Christians make decisions quickly and effectively; other times, possible ramifications cause us to pause and consider our words or actions with great caution. When we encounter times that require a decision that is difficult for us, what actions are needed? Some realize that God is all knowing and all powerful - they would like Him to provide guidance to the point of making the final decision for them. This is not something God does; we are responsible for the choices we make, the actions that follow, and the subsequent responsibility for those thoughts, actions, and choices. This can seem overwhelming at times. However, we are not left alone, scripture says, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” - Prov. 3:6 (ESV). As the Holy Spirit works at these times to help those in whom He dwells, help may be realized as remembrances of previous experiences, both good and bad. When we struggle with our choices and ask for help from the Holy Spirit, this doesn’t mean we should be fearful or should just wait around until He gives us some kind of miraculous sign or deep inner conviction. We should confidently make the best decision with the abilities we have and arrive at an acceptable solution. The decision might require some additional research or revisiting our present understanding of the gifts and abilities we have been given. Help could also come from other people sharing their previous or learned solutions to similar challenges. Help may come in a variety of ways, but whatever challenge we are experiencing can be used to make another step along our unique individual spiritual journey as we move ever closer to all Jesus wants from us. If we ask for help from God, or the Holy Spirit, He will provide opportunities at the proper time and these opportunities will never be contrary to principles written in scripture. When we ask for help and attempt to make Godly choices, we and others will be blessed in wonderful ways. Remember, too, that God often guides us only one step at a time - that is all we need to know. So let’s not be anxious. If we trust God to guide us, He will.
